The Second Colors were presented to the Irish Brigade after Battle of Fredericksburg. The First Colors had been shredded from the battles at Malvern Hill, Sharpsburg, and the other locations listed on the Second Colors. A gift from New York City businessmen, the flags cost $1,000 a piece to make.
